Did she really laugh that loud? Rachel felt slightly embarrassed, Quinn wasn’t supposed to hear that! She was almost preparing herself to some flour over Quinn’s hair and she was asking her what was funny? Well, her plan was ruined now, and she would have huffed if it wouldn’t be the cause of even more questions. So instead, Rachel kept her eyes trained on her bowl and simply shrugged her shoulder. She knew she was being childish (right, because starting a ‘flour war’ wasn’t childish either) and Quinn was probably confused, but she doesn’t like when things don’t go her way. And even if it was just a silly thing as a random idea in her head, it was ruined in a matter of seconds. But of course, as soon as that was out of the question, she started to come up with another idea.

She looked up at Quinn and bit her lip, trying to prevent that same mischievous smile form on her face and then her eyes dropped to the table. “Are you done with that? You need to add two egg yolks. But be careful!” she warned, resting her bowl on the table and taking a seat to simply observe the blonde as she kept plotting in her head. She rested her head on her hand and got lost in her own thoughts for a second. Maybe one they were done with that, once the cookies were actually in the over she could just simply grab the flour sack and emptied it over Quinn. Another chuckle. God, she was being ridiculous and feeling too giddy, what was wrong with her? Shaking those thoughts off, she looked up again at Quinn and get up, grabbing her bowl and walking towards the blonde. She didn’t say a word and added the flour mixture and processed it until the dough was done and sent a bright smile the other girl’s way. Rachel grabbed yet another bowl, a bigger one, and transferred everything there, mixing the chopped chocolate with her hands. Looking back up at the blonde, she just simply nodded. “And now we have to actually make them. Would you like your cookies to be star shaped?”

Quinn saw the other girl simply shrug her shoulders at her question and she wondered not for the first time what she was thinking.  Never being one to push she just let it go, but she was still entirely curious. The blonde nodded as Rachel asked if she was done mixing.  She was a little nervous as she saw Rachel take a seat and watched her add in the egg yolks.  Wasn’t Rachel the expert here?  Quinn considered it a small victory if she used the oven without the smoke alarm going off.  Following Rachel’s directions she very carefully added the yolks into the mixture.  She looked over at Rachel who seemed to be lost in her own little world and a soft smile spread over Quinn’s features.  She was thankful that even if they didn’t know each other all that well at this point they could just work around each other in silence.  That was something Quinn admired in a friendship.  Sometimes she didn’t want to be alone but didn’t feel the need for insistent conversation, so a lot of the time she would sit and write while Kurt worked on his designs or she would read while Santana watched tv.  Their company being enough for her.  She wondered if her and Rachel could ever have a friendship like that.  She hoped that they could but Quinn had to stop herself from getting too ahead of herself.  The blonde watched as Rachel expertly added in the rest of the ingredients.  Quinn sent the girl opposite her an amused smirk.  ”Stars?” She asked with a quirked eyebrow.  Really she should have known by now that Rachel wouldn’t settle for just normal shaped cookies.  ”Sounds perfect,” she said before dipping her forefinger into the dough and bringing it to her lips with playful smile.  She couldn’t resist.  Ever since seeing Rachel add the chocolate pieces she had planning her attack.

Her nose scrunched in a funny way as she looked over everything they’d need to make the cookies. Luckily, Rachel went grocery shopping the previous weekend so there was absolutely nothing missing. Even if she didn’t know she’d suddenly have the urge to bake again, there was really nothing wrong in being prepared for it — and it came in handy in that moment, so she just mentally congratulated herself for always thinking of that kind of stuff. Blaine would always say that whenever she goes grocery shopping by herself, she would come back with a lot of unnecessary things, but hey, he never complains he’s out of her favorite cereal and Rachel always has an extra box hidden in one of the drawers just in case. But that was so not the point. In that minute Rachel spent in silence, she decided they would make normal chocolate cookies, because after all who doesn’t love chocolate cookies? It didn’t matter if they weren’t vegan friendly, she’d be just happy baking for her friends, and her new friends too — after all she did ask Santana what kind of cookies were her favorites.

Completely ignoring Quinn’s question, Rachel quickly moved towards the oven and decided not to follow the recipe that time. She’s done that a lot of times, she should know each step by heart by now. Was this supposed to be at 375 degrees? Yes, right? Yeah. After that was done, she walked towards the table again and turned to Quinn and handed her a big bowl. “Okay here you have to mix together the cream butter and sugar. You know, until it’s light and fluffy. Have you ever made cookies?” It wasn’t really an answer, because really, Rachel didn’t even give her time to respond before she continued talking. “And while you do that, I’ll whisk together the flour, cocoa and salt,” she explained as she moved to grab a smaller bowl, quickly mixing everything together and looking over at Quinn out of the corner of her eye. It was just almost so tempting to simply grab the flour and blow some at the girl, only the thought made her chuckle to herself. But she decided against it (for now) and continued with the mix.

Quinn watched as Rachel sauntered around the kitchen with confidence.  It was truly a sight to behold, and if Rachel hadn’t done such an excellent job of making her feel comfortable Quinn probably would have been a little intimidated.  She watched curiously- it looked as if Rachel was mentally going through the recipe in her mind making sure everything was perfect.  The blonde nodded at her orders with a thin smile on her face.  Rachel wasn’t kidding baking is serious business. Quinn smiled softly at Rachel’s question.  She’d never been one to bake but her mom did every so often.  Of course the only thing Quinn was good for was making a mess and stealing chunks of cookie dough when her mom wasn’t looking.  ”I have actua-” she began but was soon cut off by Rachel’s words as she continued to explain the recipe.  Honestly, the words weren’t really sticking.  Quinn was just so enthralled by the girls energy. The blonde just shook her head and tried to stifle her laughter at the other girl’s antics.  Because really they were baking cookies but Rachel was making it sound like they were preparing for battle.  Quinn found it endearing that everything this girl seemed to do was all or nothing.  ”You’ve got it, captain” Quinn said slightly teasing Rachel as she started mixing the ingredients.  She thought she had the mix the perfect consistency when she heard the brunette laugh lightly.  It caused Quinn to quirk her eye brow and face the girl in question.  ”What’s so funny over there?” She asked never stopping her mixing but curious as to why she was laughing.

The first things Rachel noticed about Quinn, was their height difference. Sure, she had walked past her every now and then whenever she was leaving or just getting to the building, but she never really paid attention to that. It would be really rude just to blatantly stare at people, and she would know since she would do that sometimes — and clearly no one really appreciated that. But she noticed now, and she also noticed the way some of her blonde locks would fall graciously over her shoulders, and those little freckles in her eyes…she was really beautiful, Rachel could appreciate a female, but most than anything, it just made her feel self conscious. And jealous, sometimes she was not really used to. But she decided to ignore it and just focus on being a good hostess. Smiling politely, offering drinks and something to eat, listen carefully to everything and answering every question…It was easy. And the fact that the two of them seemed to get along just fine was definitely a plus.

And Rachel wanted to ask more, what about that job brought her attention, if she would rather writing instead of proofreading…but she could practically see the blonde biting her cheek not to say anything else, she did say earlier that she didn’t want to jinx it. So Rachel simply smiled at her and nodded, she could wait. And then when she finally gets the job she’ll be able to ask as many questions as she’d like. She just settled for a simple “Well, I hope you do get the job and I wish you all the luck!” before tapping her fingers against the table, almost as if preparing to talk about herself. Her day had been far from entertaining, it had been good, yes, but good as in ‘I only had a class today and didn’t have rehearsals so I basically spent all day locked in my room’. That answer was not acceptable, nope. “I had a nice day, thank you for asking. I didn’t do much really, I only had one class and then came back home. But at least I didn’t star dancing and tripped over anything,” she commented with a laugh and a little shrug of her shoulder. Her smile quickly turned into a mischievous one, and raised an eyebrow at the blonde, quickly getting up and grabbing a small flour sack and holding it in her hand. “Ready to get your hands dirty?”

Upon entering the apartment one of the first things Quinn noticed about Rachel was how gracious of a host she was, and she idly wondered if this was something instilled in her growing up.  Maybe her parents hosted a lot of parties.  It dawned upon Quinn that she really didn’t know much about this girl beyond the fact that she was polite, harbored a probable caffeine addiction, loved to bake, and had a smile that could made Quinn go weak in the knees.  ”Thank you,” Quinn said with a soft smile and a small nod of her head.  ”I’ll let you know once I know.  If I don’t get it maybe we can make some ‘better luck next time’  cup cakes or something,” she lightly teased.  The blonde listened with rapt attention as Rachel told her about her day.  There was no doubt that Rachel could command a room even when just highlighting her day.  It caused Quinn to grin because they seemed to be opposites that way.  Rachel seemed to have no qualms with speaking whereas Quinn was perfectly content just to listen.  She chuckled as the brunette recounted the events that happened the night before.  Admittedly the image of Rachel dancing around and cleaning stuck out in Quinn’s mind and she happened to find it completely adorable.  ”Well that’s good.  No more falling down.  At least not yet.  I don’t have the skills needed to bake you ‘feel better soon’ cookies,” she said playfully. Rachel’s mischievous smile and the glint in her eye wasn’t lost on Quinn.  Not one bit.  ”As ready as I’m going to be,” she said raising an eyebrow of her own wondering what the brunette had up her sleeve.  Quinn reached her hands behind her head and tightened up her loose pony tail.  ”Okay what’s first?” She said rubbing her hands together.

-rachbarbra:

The day had started off on a good note. Her shuffle decided to pick one of her favorite songs as the alarm, which immediately granted her a good mood, and there was a coffee waiting for her on the kitchen counter — courtesy of one Blaine Anderson, or maybe even Brittany, she wasn’t entirely sure but she was clearly not complaining. Despite only being the third day of the week, Rachel could already tell that the rest of the week was going to be perfect as well. If only she could avoid staying up so late again causing her to be a little more clumsy the next day… Though she had to admit that staying up late was somewhat worth it. Talking to Quinn was quickly becoming one of her favorite things to do, though it still was competing against fighting with Blaine over silly things and the random talks she would have with Brittany right before bed. And although they didn’t exactly know each other so well —or more like, at all— she could tell Quinn was a good person, and since they were neighbors it wouldn’t hurt to get to know each other and spend some time together.

So baking seemed like the perfect excuse to invite the girl over. Not that she needed an excuse, of course she could just simply ask, but this actually seemed more fun. It had been a while since Rachel baked anything, other than her I’m Sorry cookies that is, so at the idea she quickly jumped out of her bed and made a beeline to the kitchen just to see if she had everything she needed. A free kitchen? Checked. Ingredients? Checked. She just needed to get changed because greeting the other girl in her pajamas was most definitely not an option. Deciding on some tights and an over sized sweater, she returned to the kitchen just in time to hear the knock on the door and Rachel almost tripped on a chair just to hurry. So much for trying not to be clumsy. Slowly opening the door, Rachel offered a small smile to the blonde in front of her and a soft “Hey” before removing herself from the frame of the door to let her in and closing the door behind her. “Make yourself comfortable.” she said, motioning to the table where everything they’d need was carefully accommodated over the table. Rachel took a seat and opened a bottle of water, pouring two glasses and offering one to the blonde just in case she was thirsty. “How was your day? You need to tell me about that interview!” Perhaps Rachel was a little too chipper, but she was actually happy for her.

Quinn smiled at Rachel as she opened the door to let her inside.  ”Hi,” she greeted softly once they were inside.  Quinn observed the apartment trying to get a good idea of the people who lived there.  It was something she had a knack for doing.  Silently observing sometimes it got her in trouble because it takes her out of the moment and she in turn missing something going on right in front of her.  The apartment seemed tidy much like her own, but that was mostly because of Kurt.  Quinn’s room was too cluttered for most people’s taste.  Books and DVDs were strewn across her room in an order that made no sense to anybody but herself.  Kurt practically begged her to let him organize everything, but she liked her room the way it was.  The blonde smiled politely as Rachel motioned towards the table and she took a seat opposite the other girl.  ”Thanks for inviting me over,” she said her lips quirking into a smile as she ghosted her fingers over the ingredients she saw littering the table.  ”I didn’t even ask if I could bring anything!”  She scolded herself bringing the heel of her hand to her forehead.  ”I’m sorry.  I probably could have raided the pantry and found something to bring.”  She nodded in thanks as Rachel handed her the glass of water and took a small sip.  Rachel’s enthusiasm towards Quinn’s potential job caused a smile to break out on her face and her stomach to do some weird flip flop thing, but she chose to ignore the second part.  ”It was good.  I think it went really well actually,” she said biting the corner of her lip not wanting to jinx her chances.  ”It’s for a job where I’ll basically be proofreading scripts and screenplays all day,” she said with a shrug.  She was pretty sure to anybody else that job sounded like torture, but to Quinn it seemed like a good stepping stone to maybe one day writing something of her own.  ”I’m hoping the fact that I’m and English major will persuade them a bit,” she said with a chuckle.  Talking about herself was never something she was very good at.  Quinn was always more of a listening so once she finished telling Rachel about her interview she didn’t hesitate to ask Rachel about herself.  ”How about yourself?  Did you have a nice day?”  She asked before taking another sip of water.
